Of course we all want to say that we’re superheroes. Secretely we all just want to be supermna. The thing is that all that super hero junk that we hear about is all just fantasy. We know that. We are mortal, we are not invincible. If we fall hard enough, we break skin; if we hit the ground too quickly, we’ll break. We are not like them, as mortals our death is obsolete. So we live like mortals, day after day something new. We have to live our lives knowing that every day could be our last.
Welcome to Encore City, population 27,964 here every day it’s like tomorrow will never come, or couldn’t come any sooner. Here it’s very real how subject to death we—as humans—will always be. Encore City is the kind of place where people live up their lives. It is the kind of place where the nutjobs come to get away from the things they've done. The impression that nothing wrong happens here is immediately radiated from the city, the best part about that is that evil is all around you.
In Encore City the people are real, just as you imagine you and I are. People keep secrets, people lie, people laugh, people smile, drug dealers carry on business discreetly, news is made, people die, people are born and most of all the people of Encore City are very much mortal. At any given moment they could take their last breath, and that is truly the thrill of life. Knowing that the line between life and death is just one second.
